What is AdBlue®?

AdBlue® is a non-toxic, specially formulated synthetic urea solution used to chemically reduce NOx emissions produced by diesel-powered heavy-duty vehicles.

How much AdBlue® does a vehicle consume?

AdBlue® consumption varies depending on the vehicle. However, for large commercial vehicles, it typically amounts to about 6% of the diesel fuel consumed.
For example, if a vehicle consumes 100 liters of diesel, it will use approximately 5–6 liters of AdBlue®.

What happens if AdBlue® runs out?

If the AdBlue® tank becomes empty, this may result in emissions exceeding permitted levels and can cause damage to the SCR catalyst.
The vehicle will reduce engine power and performance until AdBlue® is refilled, and it will not return to normal operation without it.

Is AdBlue® corrosive?

AdBlue® has a mildly alkaline pH level of around 9.0. It should not come into direct contact with materials such as aluminum, brass, or mild steel.
Stainless steel and plastic tanks and fittings are recommended in accordance with AUS32 standards.

Due to its alkalinity, AdBlue® may cause irritation with prolonged skin contact. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If it gets into the eyes, rinse with plenty of clean water.

Handling and Disposal

For clean-up, collect spilled material mechanically and store it in suitable containers for disposal. Do not pour it into the trash, the environment, or the sewage system. Dispose of in accordance with local and national regulations.

The best way to remove crystallized or spilled AdBlue® is by rinsing with water. While rinsing, ensure that the solution is fully diluted and does not contaminate other surfaces.

If AdBlue® is spilled on automotive paint, clean the surface with water immediately to prevent damage.
If it dries and crystallizes on the paint, surface corrosion may occur.
